Zodiac Stones: Why You Should Use Them![]() Did you know that Zodiac stones have their roots in the bible? The earliest zodiac stones mentioned come from the Breast Plate of Aaron. Aaron, a high priest, was the brother of Moses. Moses and Aaron led the Israelites out of Egypt. There were twelve stones in Aaron’s breastplate which were said to represent the twelve tribes of Israel. By the 1st century AD these twelve stones were also applied to the zodiac. During early Christianity, the zodiac was part of religion. The most detailed description of Aarons breastplate comes from the Book of Exodus. The text is believed to have its roots in oral tradition and was written in stages between 400 and 600 BC. Aaron’s breastplate was considered a sacred object which helped him communicate with God. There was no exact science for identifying crystals, at the time it was written. The exact names of the stones have changed with each version of Exodus. Early Christians commonly owned twelve stones, one for each month. It was a time when humanity was more connected to the earth and skies. They realized that the energies changed throughout the year and each zodiac stone was an amulet for that period. Wearing one’s own zodiac stone throughout the year did not come into practice until much later. The zodiac is an imaginary belt of the sky that is elliptical. It is split into twelve divisions, one for each sign. The path of the sun, our moon, and major planets all make their way through this belt. In addition to having their own constellations, each zodiac sign has a ruling planet. We are made of the same material as the stars. The planets each orbit a star. Doesn’t it make sense that the stars and planets would hold some influence over us? Wearing or carrying one or two of the current sign’s stones can have positive effects. This is something that I put in practice when I became a Crystal Healer, although it started accidentally. I intuitively grabbed a few stones to carry or pieces of crystal jewelry to wear, each day. I began to find that I was instinctively gravitating towards zodiac stones, without consciously thinking about it. I found that I was more in line with the vibrations around me. I saw positive benefits, everything seemed to be getting easier. Zodiac stones are like natural prescriptions for the mind, body, and spirit. Some might enhance a particular strength; others could counter a weakness. They are all about allowing one to excel and stay in balance during that zodiac period. We sometime feel ourselves being invisibly pushed and pulled in various directions. Sometimes the energy is a good thing and other times it’s bit too much, this is where the crystals help. Some stones are energetically aligned with the ruling planet of that sign and provide the metaphysical attributes of that planet. We are currently in Sagittarius which is ruled by the planet Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. It colors the traits a Sagittarius is endowed with. Jupiter is an expansive energy which brings wisdom, intelligence, security, idealism, equilibrium, and sometimes wealth. One might choose to use a planetary crystal if they are looking to bring one or more of that planet’s characteristics into their life. Amethyst is a Jupiter crystal that helps one obtain wisdom. Red Jasper allows for security and balance. Other zodiac crystals represent an elemental of the sign, such as air, earth, water, or fire, Elemental crystals bring forth the most positive aspects of a zodiac sign. Sagittarius is a fire sign. This element is all about creativity, vitality, and personal power. Corresponding stones for this element (continued) are Red Jasper, Snowflake Obsidian, Yellow Zircon and Clear Quartz. These stones each have their own unique way of bringing out the Sagittarian's ability to self-empower. Yellow Zircon is clearing and charging for all chakras. Red Jasper fills one with a healthy dose of vitality. We also find balancing elemental stones which help tone down the negative side of a sign. For a Sagittarius these include water elemental crystals. Two of the Sagittarius zodiac stones are water elementals, Amethyst and Labradorite. Both of these stones allow a Sagittarius to relax so they can be more philosophical and open their intuitive thought. I’ll list the current zodiac, elemental, and planetary stones in my newsletter each month. Every sign has a list of several stones. I always tell people to choose their favorites and use those. Some choose crystals by the gifts that they offer. Others merely go by what they are attracted to. Both methods work well for finding the right stones for you. You might buy loose tumbled versions of the crystals and carry them in your bra or pocket. Protect the stone from damage by wrapping the crystal in cloth so it doesn’t get marred by banging into other objects. Loose tumbled stones are a much cheaper alternative to jewelry. You’ll also find that some crystals can be used for more than one sign. Garnet, for example, is a zodiac stone for three different signs. Following are a list of zodiac stones. The first stone after each sign is from The Breast Plate of Aaron.
